The San Francisco 49ers started off their practice on Thursday in a much more subdued fashion than previous days.
Head Coach Kyle Shanahan commented once the day was done saying he was disappointed with the play style he saw on Wednesday.
“They were playing sloppy and playing tired. It’s not what you want to see out there.”
After the injuries to DE Nick Bosa and CB Jason Verrett left a sour taste in the air following Wednesday's practice, it seemed clear that the team, coaches and medical staff wanted to take things slow.
To call WR Jalen Hurd a stand out would be apt in the traditional and physical sense. He is clearly the tallest receiver on the team, and plays like it.
2nd and 3rd round picks Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd are playing with an intensity that we haven’t seen from the WR corps in quite some time. The best way to describe it is to say that they’re making the defenders earn their tackles. They are also giving Shanahan the flexibility they need in the red zone and beyond.
The 49ers may finally have the free safety they need to really let the defense shine.
DB Tarvarius Moore looked comfortable at the top of the defense.
“I feel comfortable. I’ve been playing safety all my life. Of course there’s an adjustment from college. I’m just working on my details.”
Moore had a number of great plays today. The highlight might be his pass break up of TE George Kittle along the sideline, batting it out right as the ball hit his hands.
Jimmy Garoppolo threw five touchdowns today, three of which were to WR Trent Taylor.
Nick Mullens was also impressive, hitting Jalen Hurd three times and having a long touchdown after a great contested catch by TE Kaden Smith.
CB K’Waun Williams had a scope done to his kn ee. His preseason is over.
DL Arik Armstead is day-to-day
Adrian Colbert also had a number of great pass breakups.
