As you sit by the fire on a cold winter’s night you scan over your fantasy team trying to make sure you have the perfect lineup set, after all this is championship week. I carry in my chains of fantasy leagues lost I urge you to heed my warning, or you too shall have to carry the heavy burden of a lost season. These are dangerous times and you have but one chance to succeed. Tonight, you will be visited by three spirts, hear their call and listen to them.
Ghost of Fantasy Past
The 49ers have produced some great fantasy players over this past year. George Kittle has turned into an every week starter. Despite some injuries along the way and missing a few games, Matt Breida is currently ranked as an RB2 and he has given you at least one top-five performance. Even Jeff Wilson Jr. stepped in and was an RB1 as a starter. You can never go wrong with a Kyle Shanahan running back.
Dante Pettis has started to come into his own. He has over 300 yards and four touchdowns in his last four games. In three out of those four games he has at least seven targets. Even Nick Mullens and C.J. Beathard have given you weeks where if you had to start them, they didn’t crap your team.
Ghost of Fantasy Present
The 49ers’ next opponent, the Bears, have been a real Scrooge this season when it comes to fantasy points. They are currently number one with least amount of points given up to the running back. They are ninth against the tight end position. They have a monster from the Bay on defense wreaking havoc on quarterbacks. They are averaging less than 17 points per game to QBs, which is good for second, right behind Buffalo, bah humbug. Their only weakness is against the wide receiver position, where they are ranked 27th. If the quarterback can evade the Mack and get the ball out, your receiver can score.
Ghost of Fantasy Future
I warn you it is not a good idea to play 49ers this week. The graveyard you see has the tombstone of your fantasy team, it could be your fantasy death if you play any 49ers this week. The only ones I would even possibly consider are Dante Pettis and George Kittle, but only because of sheer volume. But this does mean that Mullens’s internal clock is going to have to be aware of the Mack monster.
Good luck and Godspeed.
