49ersHub Picks: Who Do We Think Will Win Week 5?

Week 5 is finally here! Last week saw some crazy games happening around the league, and even the 49ers game got pretty crazy! While Jimmy's injury is a very sad blow, the show must go on! This week the 49ers have a tough challenge with the Arizona Cardinals and rookie QB Josh Rosen! How do we think the game will go? Read on and find out!
It looked so good, but ended so bad last week against the San Di-angeles Chargers (I still won't accept that they are in LA). With how poorly the defense is playing, it is tough to find another win on our schedule. I hope they prove otherwise, but I'm not confident that it will be better against Arizona. Melvin Gordon showed what happens when the 49ers square off against running backs who can catch the ball, and now San Francisco is seeing the best receiving back currently playing in the NFL in David Johnson. Arizona's defense is bad enough for San Francisco to stay in it, but this team, as constructed, needs to prove to me that they can win before I pick them.
PREDICTION: Cardinals 31, 49ers 27
So you’re saying we have a chance? The 49ers opened as 4.5 point favorites against the Arizona Cardinals and that seems about right. Last week C.J. Beathard played his best game as a pro, even though he had two interceptions neither were his fault and they were this close to pulling off the upset against the Chargers. Luckily for our guys in Red and Gold, Arizona isn’t a good football team, they very well may be battling Oakland for the first pick in next year’s draft. If Saleh dials up more blitzes like he did in the first quarter last week and can rile up Josh Rosen the defense will have a chance to really make some noise for the first time this season. But for the offense to be successful Matt “Cheetah” Breida has to get some touches, he’s been a monster with the ball in his hands and it’ll take pressure off of Beathard. I think Arizona hangs around for the first quarter and half then the Niners pull away and win big at home.
PREDICTION: 49ers 28 Cardinals 13
This isn’t must-win game. No, it’s a must-perform game. It’s winnable, but only if the 49ers finally get contributions from all three facets of the team. Further, it’s a game to cut the missed tackles and penalties. If Shanahan can get the squad mentally dialed in then it should be no contest.
PREDICTION: 49ers 27 Arizona 14
The Arizona Cardinals are coming to Levi’s Stadium this week a not a moment too soon. The Cardinals are the only team keeping the 49ers out of the NFC West cellar and will have rookie Josh Rosen making his first start at quarterback. The 49ers are as banged up as a team can be after 4 weeks and the schedule only gets more difficult from here, so this is a must win game from morale standpoint and the 49ers find a way to get it done
PREDICTION: 49ers 23 Cardinals 17
Cardinals rookie QB Josh Rosen makes his first start on the road against a lackluster 49ers defense. However, Arizona’s defense is similarly woeful. Kittle has a big day and Shanahan finds a way to get Matt Breida the ball more often. Fred Warner logs his first career interception and the pass rush finds its legs. The team rallies around CJ Beathard’s gutsy performance against the Chargers to pull one out.
PREDICTION: 49ers 30, Cardinals 20
Shanahan finally fully unleashed Matt Breida and he responds with a 100+ yards and two touchdowns. Beathard completes a comeback by running in a red zone touchdown in the final minute of the game. DeForest Buckner ends the game with a sack as time runs out.
PREDICTION: 27-24 49ers win
Jay Moore (@Jay_Moore49) (2-2) 49ers need a win in a big way, playing an 0-4 team with a rookie QB at home is a good time to get one. This game won’t be easy though, Cardinal QB Josh Rosen played well in his first start and was not helped by his receivers, who dropped some key passes. I still believe the 49ers will do enough offensively to get a big win at home against a division rival.
PREDICTION: 49ers 31 Cardinals 20
The Arizona Cardinals will have rookie starting quarterback Josh Rosen under center for the second straight week. With him being a rookie and a cardinal that makes him a baby bird. Do you know what eats baby birds? According to the WWF, World Wildlife Foundation, not Vince McMahon, chipmunks will eat baby cardinals. Should we fear something that is preyed upon by Alvin, Simon, and Theodore? I don't think so. That's why I think the 49ers will when this game and bring their season total to 2-3.
PREDICTION: 49ers win 24-17
An incredibly difficult game for me to predict. Both teams are struggling. San Fran lost its franchise quarterback for the season; Arizona is seeing the birth of a new era for its rookie quarterback, but he's very unseasoned. Injuries have hit both these teams hard and each has issues on defense. The outcome could swing either way by the smallest of margins. But, I think the Cardinals may have their first win of the season finally on the road in Santa Clara. Josh Rosen is generating confidence and giving the Cardinals a boost in chemistry. His veteran diverse running back David Johnson is dangerous, slippery and starting to flourish. Arizona's third down defense was also awesome last week against Seattle, not allowing them to convert even one third down. With the Niners issues in tackling and Johnson's ability to free himself from tackles, San Fran's problems converting in the red zone and the defense giving up about 30 points per game, these are all issues the 49ers need to deal with in order to win. On the 49ers side, the run game is still clicking and Arizona's run defense is struggling. Rosen may also generate too many turnovers during this, his first game on the road as a starting quarterback which the Niners could take advantage of. In the end, I think there are just too many injury issues for the 49ers to prevail.
PREDICTION: Sorry, but I see Cardinals 27, 49ers 24.
1-7 Thats the combined recorded between the two teams that will play each other at Levi’s Stadium this Sunday. These are two teams that have been ravaged by injuries, poor play and a QB change. The two starting QBs in this game were not the anticipated starters when the season began. Now thats not to say that Cardinals fans are not happy about their QB change. Sunday will be the first career road start for the one they call, “The Rosen One” and in his short time under center he has already demonstrated an advance understanding of the position. What will hold him back early in his career is a subpar group of skill players outside of David Johnson and aging yet still effective Larry Fitzgerald, a bad offensive line and quite frankly bad coaching in the form of rookie HC Steve Wilks and offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. On the opposite side of things this will be C.J Beathard’s 1st home starter of the year and he’ll have another opportunity to showcase the progress he has made in year two as a pro. At the beginning of the week it looked like the team would be without 3/5 of their starting offensive line but as the week has progressed C Weston Richburg, RT Mike McGlinchey and LT Joe Staley have all put themselves in a good spot to play this week and they will be needed as the Cardinals are amongst the leaders in highest percentage of blitzes at 38% of the time. This will not be a pretty game; there will be plenty of mistakes, errors and just bad football but the 49ers should be able to win this game if they can take advantage of the matchup George Kittle will have against the Cardinals’ LBs and Safeties along with being able to run on a defense that has given up 140 yards per game.
PREDICTION: 49ers 26 Cardinals 23
