Victory in a Land Called Fantasy: Who to Start, Who to Sit
Last week was a good week for those who started Matt Breida (ranked 4th in Week 2) and even Jimmy Garoppolo (ranked 17th in Week 2). Breida is currently leading the NFL in rushing yards because that’s exactly how we all expected after the first two weeks of the season. Will Breida continue leading the NFL after Week 3? Can Garoppolo have another decent fantasy week against the Chiefs defense?
49ers Defense and Special Teams
Before I get into the skill positions I want to throw up a huge warning. DO NOT PLAY THE 49ERS DEFENSE IN FANTASY THIS WEEK. Over the past two weeks, the Chiefs have put up over 800 yards of offense and ten touchdowns. I know Reuben Foster is coming back this week. I know the Chiefs have yet to face a pass rush as good as the Niners, but I repeat, DO NOT PLAY THE 49ERS DEFENSE IN FANTASY THIS WEEK. This is not the game you want to test the defense with Foster back. SIT: 49ers D/ST
The Chiefs are putting up ungodly numbers on offense but on the flipside the Chiefs’ defense is giving up ungodly numbers. Over the past two weeks they have given up 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns, six to the quarterback. With any luck Marquise Goodwin will be back and the 49ers will be able to really open up the offense. I’m starting Garoppolo this Sunday and I think you should as well. START: Jimmy Garoppolo
The Wide Receivers
Last week looked like it would have been a great week if you started Dante Pettis. On the first drive Pettis had a 35-yard catch but then did his best David Copperfield impersonation and completely disappeared. If Goodwin is in, you should start Pettis only if you’re in deeper leagues. If Goodwin is out, go ahead and take a chance on Pettis, again the Chiefs give up a lot of yards. It sure seemed like Garoppolo and Pierre Garçon have started to get on the same page during last week’s game. Garçon was had four catches on four targets for 57 yards, I can see a bump in that production this Sunday. START: Pierre Garçon; Marquise Goodwin (if he’s in) or Dante Pettis (if Goodwin is out)
The Running Backs
To answer the question up above, yes Breida will still be the leading rusher after three weeks, I’m calling it now. I made moves in Dynasty to get him in my starting lineup this week and I’m rolling him out. I believe Kyle Shanahan will scheme to get the Breida the ball in the open field and as we saw against the Lions, Breida, at any moment, can take it the house. I have a feeling I’ll be able to retweet this again. Start: Matt Breida
Unless you’re in a deeper league I would not start Alfred Morris, he’s not getting enough volume for me to trust him. SIT: Alfred Morris.
The Tight Ends
Garrett Celek showed up Sunday but I wouldn’t start him, even if it looks like it’s going to be a buffet of fantasy points. I would start George Kittle though, he’s still looking like a favorite target for Garoppolo. It may have been a disappointing fantasy week for him against the Lions, but Kyle Shanahan likes to scheme ways of getting Kittle open and I’m not going to let one bad game stop me from starting him. START: George Kittle, SIT: Garrett Celek
