Victory in a Land Called Fantasy: Who to Start, Who to Sit

So, last week I said that the only 49ers worth playing were George Kittle and Marquise Goodwin. Kittle was worth the start and we’ll never know how well Goodwin would have done due to his injury. This week the 49ers are taking on the Detroit Lions and in my expert opinion you can start everyone. The end.

I wonder if I should have tacos tonight…..…wait, what, you want context? Oh, OK.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Last week, Garoppolo had a rough game against arguably the number-one defense in the league. Despite that, he still threw for 261 yards and one touchdown. If it was not for his three interceptions he would not have a bad game. Anyone who watched the game will also recall the almost-touchdown pass that Kittle dropped. If we would have added the touchdown and been able to take away at least one interception, Garoppolo’s fantasy line could have been a little bit different.

Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold had an OK game against the Lions, but from what I saw, the Jets offense could move the ball on the Lions defense. Take Garoppolo, a more experienced quarterback, and the fact he was a couple of dropped passes away from having a really good game against a much tougher defense, you can stream Garoppolo this week. START: Jimmy Garoppolo

The Wide Receivers

It’s hard to tell if Dante Pettis is still worth a shot in fantasy at this moment because Goodwin was injured for most of the game. If Goodwin is held out, Pettis is worth a shot. If Goodwin is in, I would keep an eye on Pettis, but not start him yet. If Goodwin is available, play him and Pierre Garçon. If Garoppolo is going to have a good game, then those he is throwing too will as well. START: Marquise Goodwin, Pierre Garçon

The Running Backs

On Monday night the Jets’ running backs had great games against the Lions, especially Isaiah Crowell. He rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 10 rushing attempts. Guess how many attempts both Matt Breida and Alfred Morris received on Sunday? They had 11 and 12, respectively. As I watched the game, I also noticed the Lions defense was susceptible to the outside zone run. Who runs the outside zone? Oh, Kyle Shanahan. I wouldn’t call the running backs your one or two, but you can definitely flex them. START: Matt Breida, Alfred Morris

George Kittle

George Kittle had nine targets Sunday against the Vikings, he had 5 receptions for 90 yards. Kittle is becoming one of Garoppolo’s go-to receivers in 2018. I even made a bet that he wouldn’t get 100 targets this season and I think I may lose this bet. As mentioned up above Kittle should have had over 100 yards and a touchdown. I think Kittle is slowly becoming an every-week starter and this week is no exception. START: George Kittle

49ers Defense and Special Teams

Matthew Stafford had four interceptions; he was never sacked but hit four times. One of the interceptions was returned for a touchdown and the Jets even scored on special teams. The 49ers defense did not look bad against the Vikings and if the Lions play like they did against the Jets, the 49ers defense is streamable this week. START: 49ers D/ST
