Earlier this morning, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter tweeted out that former Pittsburgh Steelers safety JJ Wilcox would be signing a one-year deal with the 49ers.
Wilcox had a promising combine which led to him being taken in the third round of the 2013 draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Injuries started to pile up and he never seemed to reach his own potential. After being cut by the Cowboys, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was released after the team drafted two safeties in the 2018 NFL Draft. With the depth the 49ers have at safety, the move mainly feels like a body for training camp, but Wilcox does have upside.
