Could LB Mychal Kendricks Be Headed to San Francisco

Mychal Kendricks, an early trade target before the 2017 draft of John Lynch, has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. Last season Kendricks posted 73 tackles and 2 sacks for the Super Bowl Champions. The big question 49ers fans have now is whether or not he is still a fit and target for Shanahan and Lynch.

With the Reuben Foster court case still in flux, Mychal Kendricks could be a really good insurance plan, albeit a very expensive one. The addition could also stunt the development on wonder stud hopeful Fred Warner. Depth is always good at any position, especially when one of your projected starters is looking at a possible suspension and another is coming off of a season ending injury (Malcolm Smith). Having a starting lineup of Smith, Foster and Kendricks and then working Warner in could be just the ticket the Forty-Niners' defense needs to solidify the front seven behind an improved secondary.

If he is just going to be a reserve, I don’t see Lynch putting the type of cash on the table that Kendricks is probably looking for. We already have an 8.5 million dollar possible sub in Jimmie Ward. Kendricks’ last contract was 4 years for $29 million and following a Super Bowl title, I don’t imagine he will accept much of a pay cut.
