The 49ers claim former Giants DB C.J. Goodwin (6-4, 220) of waivers today. Goodwin entered
the league as a wide receiver in 2014 as an undrafted free agent for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He
was released before the 2015 season.
Goodwin would remain a free agent until after the 2015 season when he signed with the Atlanta
Falcons. During training camp Goodwin converted from wide receiver to cornerback. He would
play 14 games in 2016 and 12 games in 2017 before being waived in December 2017. The
following day he was picked up by the Arizona Cardinals and was once again waived May 1st,
2018. After bouncing around the league by a few different teams, Goodwin was picked up by
the N.Y. Giants on May 2nd only to waived on 14th. The 49ers adding depth to what has been a
noticeable hole in the defense.
In his 4 years in the league, Goodwin has only played in 28 games, registering 11 tackles and 2
Also today the 49ers signed undrafted free agent DL Blaine Woodson (6-2, 280) to a 3 year
deal. The former second team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection played in 45 games in
his college career starting in 44 of them. He registered 159 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 14.5
sacks, one interception, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.
Unfortunately in the game of football with addition comes subtraction. The 49ers waived WR
DeAndre Carter. Carter entered the league in 2015 and has been passed around by the
Ravens, Raiders, and the Patriots practice squad, before joining the 49ers practice squad.
