Three Keys To Beating The Los Angeles Rams

The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a four-game hot streak after scoring 44 points on the NFL’s number one defense, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were only allowing opponents to score 14.5 points per game. Now they face their division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, with the highest scoring offense in the league and here the three keys on how the Niners can pull off their final win of the 2017 season.

Stop the Run Game

McVay announced on Wednesday afternoon that he plans to bench Jared Goff, Aaron Donald, and Todd Gurley so they can be healthy and ready for the playoffs. This doesn’t mean the 49ers will think this will be a walk in the park game. Second-string, running back Malcolm Brown will be starting on Sunday and he will want  to prove that he’s starter material since he’ll be a free agent this offseason. LA’s  running offense is ranked 7th in the league so the Niners’ defensive line will have to keep the running back contained so that the Rams will be forced to pass.

Run The Ball

The Rams’ defense is weak  against the run  and it should be even easier for the 49ers to run the ball when Aaron Donald isn’t playing next week. Carlos Hyde could be looking at a big game if his offensive line helps open up some holes. Hyde, who has never been completely healthy for an entire season, is 150 yards shy from his first 1,000 yard rushing campaign . Hyde is due to be an unrestricted free agent after this year but he has made statements that he doesn’t want to leave the 49ers and believes the team could win the Super Bowl in 2018.

Jimmy Garoppolo

The Rams have the best pass  defenses in the NFC and the 49ers have a top-10 passing offense. If the Niners are able to open up the run game, it will expose the Rams to the passing attack. Jimmy Garoppolo will have to play it smart, use his quick release, and make good decisions against this defense if the Niners are to get their fifth win in a row  and carry the momentum into the next year.
