Staff Picks: San Francisco 49ers at Kansas City Chiefs
Welcome to the first week of Staff Picks with the 49ersHub. Since it's just the preseason, the staff here figured that we would have a little fun with the selections.
The San Francisco 49ers are playing in their first preseason game at the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday, August 11. Here are the picks below from our staff members:
49-27, Kansas City Chiefs. A shadow of Jim Harbaugh will cast over Arrowhead Stadium and QB Alex Smith will open the series with a 99-yard touchdown run and never look back. Chiefs win, 49-27.
27-17, San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers' offense clicks on Friday as Kyle Shanahan's cerebral offensive mind shines. Not only do each of the rookie first-rounders get a sack, RB Joe Williams scores two touchdowns.
17-14, Kansas City Chiefs. The game is pretty even until LB Reuben Foster receives an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after he grabs an interception, races over to the Chiefs' sideline and yells "Y'all should have drafted me!!"
30-27, San Francisco 49ers. LB Pita Taumoepenu (Pita T!) has a late-game strip sack fumble that ends the game for the 49ers.
24-21, San Francisco 49ers. LB Reuben Foster picks off QB Patrick Mahomes. QB C.J. Beathard runs it in for the game-winning touchdown.
49-0, San Francisco 49ers. QB Brian Hoyer throws for two touchdowns, QBs Matt Barkley and C.J. Beathard add one each. LB Reuben Foster has an interception returned for a touchdown, while RBs Matt Breida and Carlos Hyde each rush for one. The Defensive Line has nine sacks and the 49ers steamroll the Chiefs.
7-0, Kansas City Chiefs. QB Alex Smith scores the only touchdown of the game on a designed run off left tackle. Sound familiar? It's the same run from the 2011 NFC Divisional game. 49ers' fans immediately offer children and other high-value dowries in exchange to bring Smith back to San Francisco.
31-21, San Francisco 49ers. QB Alex Smith checks the ball down 15 times in the first quarter. QB Brian Hoyer's opening drive ends with a touchdown pass. RB Matt Breida adds two second-half scores. S Lorenzo Jerome snags two interceptions off of QB Patrick Mahomes.
17-14, San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers will find themselves up 14-0 early in the first quarter as Kansas City QB Alex Smith will fire two passes that will be returned for touchdowns. The first from LB Reuben Foster and the second from DL DeForest Buckner. Smith will say. “On the first pick, I guess Andy called a roll-out right, I went left and had to get rid of the ball quick. I can’t even recall, the second one to be honest. Kansas City will make it interesting in the second half as they tie the score late on the back of two QB Patrick Mahomes' touchdown passes. The 49ers win it with a last-second field goal as HC Andy Reid loses focus with Smith in his ear all night asking why he’s being released.
31-17, San Francisco 49ers. Defense destroys and RB Joe Williams runs wild. 'Nuff said.
21-10, San Francisco 49ers. CB Ahkello Witherspoon surprises, intercepting QB Patrick Mahomes twice. While WR Kendrick Bourne has a monster evening with five receptions for 85 yards.
Pratta L. Jones:
28-10, San Francisco 49ers. QB C.J. Beathard throws two touchdowns and one interception. WR Victor Bolden has two TD receptions and 49ers' defense smothers QB Patrick Mahomes, who was a pick and a fumble.
24-10, San Francisco 49ers. A big day for RB Matt Breida and RB Joe Williams. Monster day for WR Kendrick Bourne and WR DeAndre Smelter. On the other side of the ball, good day for QB Patrick Mahomes, but not enough to win the game.
35-21, San Francisco 49ers. QB Patrick Mahomes impresses but makes careless mistakes. RB Matt Breida has a big day running and receiving. GM John Lynch comes in as the third-string safety after S Vinnie Sunseri picks up minor injury.
