The 49ers have waived C Jeremy Zuttah who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Baltimore Ravens, per NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
Zuttah was a former Pro Bowler that was expected to compete for a starting role in the 49ers' offensive line. With a poor performance during training camp, it seemed that C Tim Barnes or C Daniel Kilgore would leapfrog him on the depth chart.
With the open roster spot, the 49ers have signed LB Sean Porter, per Cam Inman of the Mercury News.
Porter, 26, is a former linebacker with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014 and with the Jaguars in 2016. He's appeared in three games in his NFL career. He spent most of his rookie season in the injured reserve.
He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Bengals back in 2013. At Texas A&M, Porter racked up 148 tackles in four seasons, with 14.5 sacks. Since there was a connection with DC Robert Saleh, my guess is that's where the signing of Porter comes into play.
