It was reported earlier this weekend that LB Malcolm Smith will miss the season due to a torn pectoral. The 49ers signed Smith to a 5-year contract, worth nearly $25 million. While many questioned the signing initially, Smith was performing well in training camp and was expected to be a key contributor in the regular season.
The 49ers have also signed LB Austin Calitro to a two-year contract, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Calitro is an undrafted free agent from Villanova that spent some time with the New York Jets.
Calitro is a 6-foot-0, 239-pound inside linebacker. At Villanova, he racked up 219 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 26 tackles for loss and had 7 passes defensed. During his time in college, the linebacker was also a team captain and earned All-CAA honors.

Welcome to the team, Austin Calitro!
