49ers Waive BJ Johnson III, Sign Tim Patrick
This afternoon, the San Francisco 49ers waived wide receiver BJ Johnson III and claimed wide receiver Tim Patrick off waivers. Patrick signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft, but the team waived him on July 30, 2017.
Patrick, who stands 6’5 and weighs 201 pounds, played at the University of Utah, starting in 14 of 22 games for the Utes. He had 61 catches for 888 yards and five touchdowns. During his senior year, Patrick caught 45 passes for 711 yards.
Pro Football Focus stated that Patrick is an “athletic wide receiver with long strides who has excellent speed to get behind defenses.” Patrick ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at his pro-day.
Johnson suffered a hamstring injury during training camp. Shanahan was asked about Johnson’s injury during today’s press conference but did not have any information to share.
