The 49ers' fans got really excited that nobody was on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, but on the second day of training camp, that changed quickly.
The 49ers announced that DB Jimmie Ward has been placed on PUP due to a hamstring issue.
This just meas that Ward will not count against the 90-man roster limit and can be activated at any time prior to the final cuts of training camp.
In the meantime, this transaction allows the 49ers more time to scout DB Lorenzo Jerome. He was an UDFA that the 49ers are high on and will play the single-high FS position.
This was supposed to be an important training camp for Ward, who's looking to settle into his new role as the free safety, similar to what Earl Thomas does in Seattle.
