Per John Lynch, 49ers sign veteran pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil
The signings keep coming, well into June and now the 49ers have added another veteran pass-rusher to the fold. This time, it's ex-Bronco and ex-Raven, Elvis Dumervil.
Dumervil, 33, was a former draft pick of the Denver Broncos. He's spent a combined 10 seasons with the two franchises.
For his career, he has 99 sacks and 255 tackles, to go along with 23 forced fumbles. He would be a veteran pass rusher that would fit in at the LEO position for the 49ers. He was dominant in 2009 and 2014 with 17.0 sacks in each of those seasons.
He's been less effective these past few seasons, with only nine sacks total. With age and a lot of players in Baltimore, he was released by the Ravens.
The 49ers will use him similar to how Atlanta used Dwight Freeney last year. A situational pass-rusher that came in on third downs and also mentored the younger players.
Dumervil's contributions might not necessarily show up on the stat sheet week in and week out, but having a veteran player in the locker room and meeting rooms is a huge benefit.
The best part is how the announcement was made, not via Adam Schefter or Ian Rapaport, but via our General Manager, John Lynch.
Welcome to the 49ers, Elvis Dumervil!
