49ers Draft La. Tech WR Trent Taylor in 5th Round

49ers keep going offense, offense, offense. With the No. 177 pick in the 5th round of the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have selected WR Trent Taylor from Lousiana Tech.

Trent Taylor is a 5-foot-8 guy, with 8" hands at the NFL Combine. He also ran a 4.63 second 40-yard dash in the Scouting Combine. He's an extremely tough, physical player for his size. Reminds me of Cole Beasley of the Dallas Cowboys, a quick, shifty slot receiver.

Here is NFL.com's Scouting Report on Taylor:

High-volume target with great hands and an ability to punch well above his weight class in the toughness department. Taylor's production is impressive, but his size and lack of explosive punt return talent could make his path to an NFL roster challenging.

TAylor had a record-breaking 136 grabs in his senior season, for 1,803 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's not a great punt returner, but he'll be able to use his instincts in space and be a slot receiver for the 49ers.

Here's a video of his highlights at Lousiana Tech:

He'll likely work behind Jeremy Kerley, fighting for a slot receiver position. The 49ers were waiting to add a WR, and continue to find the late-round guys who have a chance to come into training camp and compete.

Welcome Trent Taylor to the Bay!
