49ers Draft QB C.J. Beathard from Iowa after moving back into 4th round
Many thought the 49ers were done in the draft after taking Ahkello Witherspoon and trading out of the third round entirely.
Well hold your horses, the 49ers moved back into the 4th round, taking QB C.J. Beathard from Iowa.
Here's the trade:
Minnesota Vikings get:
4th - No. 109
7th - No. 219
San Francisco 49ers get:
3rd - No. 104
The 49ers used this pick to take their quarterback. To be honest, I hadn't heard much on him going into the draft, but if Kyle Shanahan likes him, it means he sees something.
Here's Lance Zierlein's scouting comments on NFL.com:
Pro-style quarterback who dealt with nagging injuries to key pass catchers and himself in 2016. His 2015 tape was more impressive, but deep-ball accuracy issues, poor pocket awareness, and unnecessary hesitation as a passer shows up in both seasons. Beathard plays checkers with safeties rather than chess, which could always hinder his ability to attack down the field with success. Could be a career backup who finds himself in the action at some point down the road.
Beathard as a senior, had 56.5 percent completion, 1,929 yards, 47 TD and 10 INT, but absolutely a developmental prospect.
Let's see what the 49ers choose to do with Beathard in the future!
