According to Mike Garafolo, piggy-backing on a report from Peter Schrager, the 49ers will be signing LB Malcolm Smith when free agency begins tomorrow.
This may be the most questionable signing that John Lynch has made all day, as Smith didn't have a particularly good season with the Raiders.
He may have had 100 tackles these past two seasons, but he was porous in passing and running defense. Smith was outplayed by fellow linebacker Perry Riley Jr and the Raiders decided to part ways with Smith.
The 49ers currently have LB NaVorro Bowman and LB Ray-Ray Armstrong slotted to start, but they may be looking for additional depth.
The contract will be telling, but it's an interesting signing by John Lynch. Let's see how much the 49ers decide to pay Smith.
