The 49ers announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have released Safety Antoine Bethea.
Bethea carried a cap number of $7 million this upcoming season and with his release the 49ers will save $5.75 million.
Bethea showed up in all 16 games for the 49ers this season, having 95 tackles, and one interception.
His age started to show though, and at 32, he was consistently beat deep by receivers.
With a Seattle-like defense to be employed by the 49ers, it didn't make sense for Bethea to stay any longer. Lynch went to mention that he would love to see Jimmie Ward move back to FS, which would probably indicate that Eric Reid will shift over to SS.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with the 49ers secondary this upcoming season, but veterans are getting cut left and right with the 49ers.
