According to Ian Rapaport of NFL.com, QB Colin Kaepernick will opt out of his contract and become a free agent.
Kaepernick was set to make $19.3 million this upcoming season if he opted in to his contract. This was widely expected all season long as Kaepernick had restructured his contract back in October to create this opportunity.
It will be interesting to see what happens in free agency with Kaepernick. Does he choose to take less money elsewhere and possibly be a backup? Or does he come back and compete with the 49ers under Kyle Shanahan?
Earlier last week, reports came out that Lynch, Shanahan and Kaepernick had a meeting and everyone came out "positive" from the meeting.
We shall wait and see what happens with Kaepernick.
