According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, 49ers will sign CB K'Waun Williams. With that, John Lynch signs his first free agent!
After going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft, he was signed by the Cleveland Browns. He played in the 2014 season, and had 29 tackles, one sack and 8 PBU's. He followed it up with another solid season, recording 30 tackles, one sack, two PBU's.
He's only 5-foot-9, but still plays bigger than his size. I think he'll come in a be a CB that will compete for the nickel cornerback position.
Williams' DBs coach during his days in Cleveland is none other than current 49ers DBs coach Jeff Hafley. This connection could be a strong reason why the 49ers are going after Williams.
However, last season he was released by the Browns after a injury dispute. Picked up the Chicago Bears, Williams didn't play a snap due to a failed physical. He had some ankle injury concerns and thus didn't play at all last season.
He'll be their nickel back specialist, taking the role away from DB Jimmie Ward, who can focus on playing the outside cornerback position.
