Report: John Benton being finalized for 49ers' OL Coach

February 20, 2017

As reported earlier, John Benton, the Assistant Offensive Line Coach with the Denver Broncos, was granted an interview with the 49ers for their OL Coach opening.

Now, Alex Marvez confirms that John Benton is being finalized for their Offensive Line Coach Opening.

John Benton will be a great addition for the Offensive Line Coach opening. His connection to Shanahan stems from their days together in Houston. With the Texans and Gary Kubiak, they ran a outside zone based running scheme.

They actually had 3 top-5 running offenses during his 5 years in Houston. Benton was also the coach with the Rams when they had Steven Jackson.

He also worked closely with Arian Foster and helped turn Lamar Miller into a great back. Just to recap here's Benton's Resume:

Offensive Line Coach, Colorado State (1995-2003)

Offensive Line Coach, St. Louis Rams (2003-2005)

Offensive Line Coach, Houston Texans (2006-2013)

Offensive Line Coach, Miami Dolphins (2014-2015)

Asst. Offensive Line Coach, Jacksonville Jaguars (2016)
