Report: Hightower to be the 49ers Special Teams Coordinator

February 15, 2017

According to ESPN's Adam Caplan, Richard Hightower will be the new Special Teams Coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

Earlier, we had reports that Atlanta's Assistant Special Teams Coach, Eric Sutulovich, would be interviewing, but it looks like Hightower got the job. The ex-Chicago Bears Asst. ST Coach will be making his second stint with the 49ers, as he was on Jim Tomsula's staff as well.

Below is his NFL Coaching resume:

Staff Member, Houston Texans (2006-2008)

Assistant Special Teams Coach, Washington Redskins (2010-2013)

Offensive Quality Control Coach, Cleveland Browns (2014)

Assistant Special Teams Coach, San Francisco 49ers (2015)

Assistant Special Teams Coach, Chicago Bears (2016)

His connection to Shanahan comes from their time together at the University of Texas, as they were both on the team together. Shanahan continues to build a strong staff with people that he trusts and has good relationships with. Most of the staff has now been filled out, with a few position coaches still remaining to be named.
