Report: Robert Saleh to become 49ers' Defensive Coordinator

February 13, 2017

As it has been speculated for the past week or so, Robert Saleh will indeed become the new San Francisco 49ers' Defensive Coordinator, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan.

Saleh, 38, has most recently worked under Gus Bradley as his Linebackers Coach. He brings a wide range of experience with him to San Francisco. Below is his resume:

Assistant Coach, Michigan State (2002-2003)

Assistant Coach, Central Michigan (2004)

Assistant Coach, Georgia (2005)

Defensive Intern, Houston Texans (2005)

Defensive Quality Control Coach, Houston Texans (2006-2008)

Assistant Linebackers Coach, Houston Texans (2009-2010)

Defensive Quality Control Coach, Seattle Seahawks (2011-2013)

Linebackers Coach, Jacksonville Jaguars (2014-2016)

The Defensive Coordinator position on Kyle Shanahan's staff is an important hire, as Shanahan will likely focus mostly on the Offensive side of the ball. Saleh will mostly likely be the "Defensive" Head Coach and run the show on that side of the ball. The connection to Shanahan, as I had mentioned in an earlier article, comes from their days together on the Houston Texans' staff.

Caplan also mentions in a later tweet that Saleh will be the sole Defensive Coordinator.
