49ers announce additions to Shanahan's staff

February 14, 2017

The 49ers continue to fill out the rest of their staff, as they made the official announcement on three more hires to Kyle Shanahan's staff.

Just as we expected, Mike LaFleur is being hired to coach the Wide Receivers, Mike McDaniel is being hired to be the Run Game Specialist and Taylor Embree is being brought on to be the Offensive Quality Control Coach.

LaFleur, 29, and McDaniel, 33, are following Shanahan from Atlanta, as the San Francisco 49ers seem to be having a "Falcons-West" movement, with a lot of ex-Falcons coaches on the staff.

Below is LaFleur's resume prior to taking the 49ers WR Coaching gig:

Quarterbacks Coach, Saint Joseph's College (2010)

Offensive Coordinator, Saint Joseph's College (2011-2012)

Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks/Wide Receivers, Davidson College (2013)

Offensive Coaching Intern, Cleveland Browns (2014)

Offensive Assistant, Atlanta Falcons (2015-2016)

Here's McDaniel's resume before joining Shanahan in SF:

Coaching Intern, Denver Broncos (2005)

Offensive Assistant, Houston Texans (2006-2008)

Running Backs Coach, California Redwoods (2009-2010)

Offensive Assistant, Washington Redskins (2011-2012)

Wide Receivers Coach, Washington Redskins (2013)

Wide Receivers Coach, Cleveland Browns (2014)

Offensive Assistant, Atlanta Falcons (2015-2016)

Although McDaniel is primarily listed as Offensive Assistant, many speculated that he was their Running Game Coordinator and helped Shanahan design the running plays. He will be a big asset with the 49ers and will work closely with Bobby Turner in creating the 49ers' run game.

Taylor Embree, son of 49ers' current Tight Ends Coach, will assume the role of Offensive Quality Control Coach. Embree was a four year wide receiver at UCLA, and then stayed on as a Graduate Assistant at UCLA. He spent one season as a Defensive Assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs and now will join the 49ers.

San Francisco will continue to announce more hires in the coming days as they fill out the rest of their staff. It definitely looks promising that Kyle Shanahan continues to bring trustworthy coaches to be a part of his staff. It continues to show his confidence in relationships he's developed over his time in the NFL.
